Microsoft Family Safety

Microsoft Family Safety has the ability to lock down websites that are visited by your child. It also has tracking features that are also useful to parents of driving teens.

It has features which can be used to restrict screen time, block apps from cell phones and a section that will allocate pocket money to a Microsoft/Xbox account.

This app has a lot of great features. However there are requirements that when using it that have to be setup for it to work effectively.

-Having one local administrator account on the computer where the child will be working and the child does not know the password.

-Signing into the computer using the child's Microsoft account.

-Have a good idea of what you want to lock down as the feature to web filter everything except for site www.abc.com, for example, doesn't work as well as it should for websites with single sign on features and will continuously prompt to allow access and despite granting the access will continue to prompt.

There is a free version with less features. However a premium subscriber will pay a 9.99/month fee and this may be a steep ask for some families. The addition of Microsoft office and OneDrive storage of 1TB is the real value in this product, although anyone with a child of school age might already have a state government sponsored Microsoft student account (most public schools will) and this comes with Microsoft office.
